The Luxury of Time

What is luxury? According to this ad from a November 2006 magazine, luxury is time.

Bentley Breitling ad from November 2006

Now, it may not be fair to include this ad as part of my endeavor here to see how car manufacturers are presently handling old URLs listed in old magazines. If I’m not mistaken, this is actually a Breitling watch ad, that just happens to have a tie-in branding with luxury carmaker Bentley, not the other way around.

This whole site is devoted to automobiles, not watches (though watches are cool, too – no disrespect is intended). But I’m including this ad in this project because of its obvious automotive connection here.

And companies should always be aware of how their brand is represented. No doubt, the good folks at Bentley had plenty of input on the marketing around this watch/car tie-in.

That’s why today we’ll look at www.breitlingforbentley.com, the site featured in very tiny print at the bottom of the left-hand page.

If we want to buy an expensive watch to go with our expensive car, can we still find the details at that site today?

Nice! It looks like the two companies are still cross-promoting themselves.

The URL changes when you go to the site — it redirects to breitling.com/us-en/partnerships/breitling-and-bentley/, which is fine. (And maybe it always did that? I don’t know. I didn’t check back in 2006.)

Either way, it’s good to see that the old domain is still around all these years later.
